Government's written statement on the final Local Government Finance Settlement included an announcement of £150 million for the adult social care support grant in 2018-19.
In response, Cllr Claire Kober OBE, Chair of London Councils, said:
“More money for adult social care is welcome news. However, this announcement does not address the scale of the challenge. London boroughs are facing reductions in their adult social care budgets of £300 million by 2020; their share of the new money is likely to be around £23 million.
“At the same time, the Government needs to take into account the growing pressure on children’s services, which support the most vulnerable young people in society. This represents a serious risk to local authority budgets.”
Yesterday the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government made a written statement to Parliament on the Local Government Finance Settlement.
