National Funding Formula

The Department for Education has confirmed that there will not be a national funding formula for schools in 2015/16.

Instead, it initially announced an additional £350 million in 2015/16 for schools in the 62 'least fairly-funded' local authority areas.

Following a consultation, in which London Councils responded, funding was increased to £390 million distributed across 69 local authorities in 2015/16 as part of Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG).

Education Services Grant (ESG)

The Education Services Grant (ESG) is an un-ringfenced grant paid to local authorities and academies to fund services such as school improvement, education welfare services, central support services and statutory and regulatory duties.

In 2015/16, there will be a £200 million cut to the ESG. The DfE ran a consultation on how the savings should be made.
